For my Communication Capstone class, my partner and I presented a mock training seminar surrounding the importance of nonverbal communication in the workplace. Many young business professionals do not realize the great influence and importance that nonverbal communication holds in the business world. Just like the cartoon below, many graduates do not know how to sit, dress, speak, and carry out many other important nonverbal behaviors. Therefore, my partner and I thought that our seminar would be useful for workplace meetings, presentations, and interviews.

Our objectives were to train individuals how to identify, analyze, and interpret nonverbal behaviors. We assessed the participants before the training to gain perspective on areas of need. After the presentation, we applied the same assessment to see what knowledge the participants gained.

First, we demonstrated effective and ineffective nonverbal behaviors through a mock interview. Then, we led an activity in which partners interviewed each other while applying specific nonverbal behaviors. The activity showed how effective good nonverbal behaviors are in interview situations.
