Philosophy of Communication

Communication is important; this we all know. Just how important? At work, in a family, between friends, in a romantic relationship . . . communication is the key for these things to be successful. Out of the many aspects of communication, I believe that humor is one of the most effective and important ways to send and receive messages. Humor, when executed correctly, sends positive messages to others. Humor can transcend conflict and mend what is broken. Humor has the ability to create laughter out of sadness and a grin out of a somber expression. Laughter is a universal language, which is precisely why humor is so vital. However, to be a competent communicator, one must gain a full understanding of all scopes of communication.  Through demonstration and practice, one must also master them. After college, I hope to study comedy in Chicago. In these studies, I will link humor with the knowledge I have gained in my communication studies at Wisconsin Lutheran College. Most comedians make witty observations about how humans communicate with one another, and I hope to do the same. With this humor-communication link, I hope to entertain and inspire others.
